TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN – Our Transitional Kindergarten program was developed in fall 2006 as an answer for children who have completed a Pre-K program but are not chronologically or developmentally ready to attend a public kindergarten. This classroom has a 15 children maximum and teaches the ABeka Kindergarten curriculum at an adjusted pace. Our T-K children build on their phonics foundation by adding two vowels and words that contain special sounds, (like sh and ar). Their reading vocabulary grows dramatically this year. Students learn manuscript writing which correlates with their phonics, moving from letters to blends, to words, and sentences. Science, Social Studies, Poetry and History fill out the busy day that is planned in this exciting room. The children that are able to take part in this “bonus year” program truly have a head start as they enter the public or private school arena. As the TAKS test (Texas Achievement and Assessment of Knowledge and Skills), becomes mandatory at lower grade levels each year, we believe this program will be a great investment in your child’s future.
Placement in this program will be based on assessments made by the teachers, director and parents at the time of enrollment. This class will not be open for move up from the Pre-K programs throughout the year. This class is available as a five day a week program only.
